Ready-to-use single-use test system for monitoring steam sterilization with fractional pre-vacuum for complex sterilization goods, including hollow body instruments (Critical B).
With the SMU-LC, Stericop has developed a completely new test system for monitoring sterilization cycles with fractional pre-vacuum at 121°C or 134°C for complex sterilization goods (according to DIN EN 867-5). Our patented single-use system is delivered fully assembled—no preparation or functional testing is required. All potential error sources associated with multi-use systems are eliminated.
Other sterilization control systems available on the market for hollow bodies (Helix systems) must be assembled from multiple individual parts. The seals or connection points of these tests are always weak points, as they can become leaky. Steam can penetrate these leaks, leading to false positive test results—thus, inadequate sterilization efficacy may go undetected!
The SMU-LC consists of an ultrasonically welded plastic body that simulates a long, thin tube. At the end of this tube is a test chamber containing a chemical indicator. Therefore, this test system has no seals or connection points that could leak. The indicator has already been factory-installed, preventing accidental swapping or incorrect placement of the indicator. This control system is ideally suited for the release of critical B instruments.
Each of our tests is equipped with a label that includes all relevant data in clear text and an alphanumeric barcode (Code128). This labeling makes it easy for you to integrate the SMU-LC into your quality assurance processes—whether through electronic data processing by scanning the code or simply by sticking the label into your sterilization logbook.
Product | Order No. | Package Size | Storage | Shelf Life |
---|---|---|---|---|
SMU-LC | 510010 | 10 pieces | Dry, at room temperature | 3 years from date of manufacture |
510050 | 50 pieces |
The application of the SMU-LC is extremely straightforward; unlike Helix tests from other manufacturers, no preparation or functionality check is necessary.
Only with a complete color change of the indicator from light blue to black can a successful sterilization be confirmed. In this case, you can assume that the rest of the load in the sterilizer has also been correctly sterilized—especially the inner surfaces of hollow-body instruments. An incomplete color change to dark blue or blue-green indicates a faulty sterilization cycle.
To fulfill the legal documentation requirements, you should record the result in the sterilization log. You can then dispose of the indicator.
Our tip: The new opening aid makes working with the SMU-LC single-use testing system even easier!
As mentioned above, conventional reusable systems have a significantly higher error susceptibility than our single-use test SMU-LC. However, some of our customers have requested a reusable system, whether to save costs or to produce less waste. For this reason, we have developed the SMU-LCR, which combines the advantages of a reusable test with the high reliability of our SMU-LC.
